BARTOW – When he was a high school student in the 1950s, Ernie Cooper was with a bunch of friends at the Youth Center in Bowling Green, Florida.
“We were at the back table and there were people playing cards, shooting pool, listening to music,” he recalled. “After a while everyone moved and I was by myself. I looked around and saw different friends of mine and I thought it was really neat. I thought one day I want to work with young people. I want to help them to meet their potential.”
