LAKE WALES — The city of Lake Wales took ownership of the historic but run down Hotel Grand in 2007 after a private owner could not pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in code violations.

A year later, the city put a call out to developers interested in restoring the building that dominates the downtown Lake Wales skyline. On Feb. 2, 2010, Winter Haven developer Ray Brown was awarded the opportunity to start renovating the property.
