It won't be long before "super mid-size" jets will be able to land at Lake Wales Airport. Area leaders had a ground breaking ceremony Oct. 2 to extend the primary runway from 3,999 feet to 5,401 feet. Work is scheduled to be completed in May 2018 and will cost $3.8 million, largely funded by state and federal grants.
