HAINES CITY – On her last day of Christmas break, home alone with her 9-year-old younger brother, 11-year-old Yazmin White ran up to the store to buy drinks and snacks while her brother was napping.

On her way back home from the store Jan. 3, wearing ear buds and looking down at her phone, the sixth grader at Davenport School of the Arts crossed the railroad track between U.S. 17/92 and the Oakland neighborhood in Haines City when she was struck by an Amtrak train and killed at around 4:45 p.m.
