The eastern side of Polk County is celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day 50 years from the date he was shot to death.

On Monday, Jan. 15, the 17th Annual Winter Haven Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast is scheduled at the Winter Haven Recreational and Cultural Center at Ave. T NE. The program is scheduled at 9 a.m. and Immediate Past Chairwoman and Vice Chair, Florida Democratic Party, The Honorable Judy Mount will deliver the keynote address. Mount was the first African American woman ever to hold the position of Chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party. She is also a Senior Administrative Assistant, Florida House of Representatives Democratic Office. It is $10 donation per person.
