Saturday, March 10, marks the 23rd Annual Champagne & Shamrocks gala on March 10. An evening of dinner and concert by the Winter Haven Symphonia Orchestra, conducted by Virginia Davidson, it also marks the return to Mayo Hall, after having been held at the Winter Haven campus of Polk State College.
Champagne & Shamrocks began as a fundraiser for the Rotary Club in 1987. According to Bill Siegel, one of the founders of the Symphony Guild of Winter Haven and one of its last surviving members, Champagne & Shamrocks was and still is one of the biggest social and cultural events in Winter Haven, second perhaps to the annual gala held by Winter Haven Hospital.
