CHAMPIONS GATE – With popular Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam now running for governor, the race to elect his replacement has attracted six candidates so far. Three of them, Sen. Denise Grimsley (R-District 26), former member of the House Baxter Troutman of Frostproof and former member of the House Matt Caldwell of Ft. Myers each gave 15-minute speeches at the annual Lay of the Land Conference near Orlando April 5.

According to the conference organizers, the other three candidates were invited but chose not to attend. They are: Mike McCalister a veteran and registered Republican from Plant City and Democrats Jeffrey D Porter from Cooper City and David Walker of Ft. Lauderdale.
