County considering raising taxes over next 10 years

Even though a recent report stated Polk County Fire Rescue meets the standard response time 89 percent of the time, county commissioners have been considering raising taxes, possibly over the course of 10 years, to fund upgrades that would improve the response time to 90 percent.

POLK COUNTY – According to a recent county fire report, some county fire stations are getting old and need to be replaced. Some are not centrally located in areas of high growth. Commissioners say according to the report, there are too many stations around rural areas like Frostproof and not enough coverage in other areas.
