Bartow resident J.C. Martin kicked off a new radio show Sunday on WLKF 1040 AM called the Polk County Builders Hour and guests on the first show included William Webb, Webb Homebuilders Group; Lucas Martin from Floralawn; and Susan Waddell with Stinsons Home Design.

The group joked and visited until the engineer behind the glass gave Martin, from Kelly Buick GMC, the one minute sign. Then the station identification ended and the theme song for The Polk County Builders Hour started. “Good morning Polk County,” said Martin, and a new talk show is born.

The show is the brainchild of Martin, who serves on the Board of Directors for the PCBA, the Polk County Builders Association. It will showcase builders and members of the PCBA weekly with Martin the weekly host and producer.

“The building industry and all of the businesses that do business with them went through a rough few years. Florida is making a great comeback and we want to keep the public informed about local businesses,” said Martin.

Webb, who is president of the PCBA, said, “We’re thrilled to have this new show. Consumers need to know the difference between legitimate local businesses and the scammers out to rip off folks or get them in trouble by not being licensed and insured. JC came up with this idea, outlined a budget and action plan, and the Board said, ‘Let’s go.’

“We’re also grateful to JC’s company, Kelley Buick GMC in Bartow for sponsoring the show. They’ve stuck with us through tough times,” he said.

The show airs at 10 a.m. Sunday. People can call 863-682-1430 with questions for guests.
