Watch for goblins!

The Bartow City Commission passed Resolution 13-3838R at the last commission meeting recognizing Oct. 31, Halloween Day, as the official day of trick-or-treat. The times they have established this year are from 6-8 p.m. There is no doubt that our streets will be filled with youngsters in search of the elusive sugary treats. In their pursuits of the tasty treats they will be wearing costumes that may limit their ability to see, so let’s watch for them.

As in years past, we at the Bartow Police Department encourage you to be extra safe. Parents go with your children, carry a flashlight, make sure that your little ones wear reflective clothing, visit the houses you are familiar with and make sure that you inspect each piece of candy prior to eating it.

Motorists are encouraged to be extra careful of our children and drive more slowly during this time. It is just too easy for one of our children to get excited and dart into a traffic lane.

Let’s make this another great and safe Halloween in Bartow. Play by the rules and report any activity that you believe to be suspicious to the Bartow Police Department. If you encounter candy that your youngster collects that seems suspicious, report it to the police department.

Visit our website and Facebook page for more Halloween safety tips. And, as always, make good choices, folks, your safety is important.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can always contact the Bartow Police Department at 863-534-5034. Happy Halloween from the men and women of the Bartow Police Department!
