One of the most popular gifts this time of year is bicycles. Justifiably so, because we have great weather almost all year round and that makes it a great place to live if you enjoy outdoor activities.
Bicycles, though, are easy targets for the criminal mind if they are left unattended. So, as the Christmas season quickly approaches us, we at the Bartow Police Department urge you to consider some tips to keep your bicycle out of harm’s way.
First, one of the luxuries of living in a smaller city with a hometown police department is additional services that we can offer to the community. The Bartow Police Department offers every resident the opportunity to register their bicycle with us free of charge. This registration is kept on file so if it is ever taken by someone, we will have the file for you with the serial number and owner applied number. You can keep that form yourself to refer to, or rely on us to keep it, either way you will have the vital information on your bicycle.
Second, please take the extra time to ensure that your bicycle is properly stored and secured. Keep it inside or chain it/lock it in some fashion as to impede a person from just riding away with it. Don’t forget, the Bartow Police Department is currently a full partner with CopDots. These devices can be placed on your property and registered by you on-line. You and the police will have total access to the vital numbers on your bicycle.
To register your bike or get information about CopDots, contact the Community Services Section of the Bartow Police Department at 863-534-5034.
