I recently moved into a house in the historic district of Bartow. I was told by the mail carrier that a wall mounted box attached to the house was not allowed and that a rural route mailbox on a post out by the road would be repaired. I have noticed a lot of house mailboxes in the historic district that are not in keeping with the original concept of downtown and are a safety issue as well with postal thefts.
After speaking with Pinon, the postmaster of Bartow, he advised that the historic district is exempt from this ordinance and that the carriers will be corrected. Others in the historic district were told they could not use the wall mounted boxes as well and they should know they are misinformed.
