Robert E. “Bob” Gassett, 76, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at his residence in Homeland, Fla., of heart failure.

Born July 28, 1937, in Homeland, Mr. Gassett was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was a retired staff sergeant from the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 3, Bartow, and the South Lakeland Moose Lodge.

Mr. Gassett is survived by two sons, Clifton Gassett and Dwight Gassett, both of Granite City, Ill.; sister, Lois Reid (John), Lakeland; brother, James Gassett, Lakeland; four grandchildren, Ashlee, Chelsea, Shelbey and Nathan.

Family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. at the Homeland Cemetery with military honors.
