James Asbell, 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Tampa General Hospital due to cancer.
James was born in Bartow, Fla., on Sept. 18, 1949, to Norman and Maggie Asbell. He spent most of his life in the Polk County area working in irrigation and operating heavy equipment.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1970.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles Dannelley and Glenn Asbell.
He is survived by daughters, Jill (James) Hudson, Leah (Chris) Winzer and Nancy Albritton; grandsons, Andrew Winzer and Ezekiel Gregg; his first and last love, Dorothy Taylor, and his former wife and good friend, Wanda Gorsuch; and numerous “adopted” children, grandchildren and a large “family of friends” who he loved very much.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at McLean Funeral Home, 306 E. Broadway, Fort Meade.
Following the service there will be a covered dish dinner at Peace River Park, second pavilion, to celebrate the life of this loving and giving man.
