Luther Ellis, 90, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at his residence in Fort Meade.

Born Sept. 22, 1923, in Pike County, Alabama, Mr. Ellis was a resident of the Fort Meade area for several years, moving from Hardee County.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He worked in the citrus industry for many years.

Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Alena Ellis, and his first wife, Bessie Ellis.

He is survived by three daughters, Jean Sweikowski of Wauchula, Betty L Shiver of Bowling Green and Linda Dickey of Zolfo Springs; four stepsons, Wayne and Roy Chambers of Fort Meade, Ronnie Chambers of Sebring and Dale Chambers of Avon Park; two stepdaughters, Linda Clyatt of Lakeland and Judy Gibson of Bartow; a sister, Catherine Bryant of Troy, Ala.; brother, Thomas Ellis of Zolfo Springs; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at McLean Funeral Home, 306 E. Broadway, Fort Meade with services following at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
