Mrs. Helen Weis Nicholson, 98, of Wauchula, Fla., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at home after a short illness.
Mrs. Nicholson was born Sept. 5, 1915, in Staunton, Ill., and lived most of her life in Hardee County, Fla., where she was part owner of Nicholson Supply Company in Bowling Green, Fla., Wauchula and Fort Meade, Fla.
She was a member of the Senior Ladies’ Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Bowling Green, where she was an active member for over 70 years.
She is survived by her son, Charles (Penny) Nicholson of Wauchula; daughter, Mary Ann (Charles) Sanders of Bowling Green; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; Richard and Judi Nicholson, and children Sarah and Daniel of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; David and Ann Nicholson, and children Jacob, Jeremy and Rachel of Lithia, Fla.; Steven and Amy Nicholson, and children Vusi and Micah of Cape Town, South Africa; Jennifer Sanders of Herndon, Va.; Jessie Sanders Brooks and Michael of Coral Springs, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Mrs. Nicholson was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Nicholson; brother, John E. Weis; and sister, Henrietta W. Cochran.
Interment was held at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the Bowling Green Cemetery. Visitation was held at 10:15 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Bowling Green. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Tharp officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Nicholson requested donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 4531 North U.S. Highway 17, Bowling Green, FL 33834 with preferences for Steven Nicholson written on the memo line to support the ministry of her grandson who does mission work in Cape Town, South Africa.
