Henry “Cecil” Moore of Bartow passed away on March 9, 2014, at the age of 97 from natural causes.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1916, in Swainsboro, Ga.
He received his early education from schools in Polk County, Fla., and graduated from Summerlin Institute, Class of 1934.
He joined the Army Air Corp during World War II and was in the 322nd Bomb Squadron, then the 450th and the 451st, serving in Europe.
Upon returning from the war, he started a long career with Life Of Georgia Insurance Company, and retired with 42 years of service in 1983.
Cecil married LaVonne Jean Weber on June 17, 1948. They have three children, Michael J. Moore, MD (Belinda), Michele J. Moore and Marilynn Moore-Schoneman (Ralph); two grandchildren, Kevin Moore Schoneman and John Michael Moore.
Cecil was a longtime member and baptized in the First United Methodist Church of Bartow.
He also held memberships in the American Legion and B26 Marauders Historical Society.
He was involved in community service, serving on the Bartow City Commission and as mayor of Bartow, during the 1960s and 1970s. He served as president of the Ridge League of Municipalities from 1966-67.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Steely and Nannie Griffin Moore; two sisters, Ruby Kindred and Essie Mae Wolfe, and one brother Garlin Moore, and his wife of 63 years, LaVonne Weber Moore.
A visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15 at the funeral home.
