Allen W. Young, 68, passed away from respiratory failure on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in Tampa.

Born on Aug. 24, 1945, in Alturas, he was the son of the late William Henry and Flora Lee (Peacock) Young.

Mr. Young was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Following his service, he owned and operated his own trucking company in Alturas for many years. Mr. Young was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Alturas and a current member of Main Street Baptist Church in Bartow.

Allen is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Lou (Werner) Young, three sons, Dr. Christopher G. Young (Tammy), Samuel Scott Young (Denise), Douglas A. Young (Ruta); daughters, Danielle Ferrell (Bobby), and Cecilia A. Slater (Eric). He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Corey, Victoria, Caira, Tyler, Zach, Gabriel, Ashley, Trinity, Samuel, Grayson, Ryder, Brentley, and five siblings, Evelyn Hielscher, Leland K. Young (Wanda), James V. Young (Martha), Flora Conley (George ), and Doniece Bennett.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 16 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at the funeral home chapel.
