Lady Jackets gear up for season

The Bartow High School Lady Jackets Fast Pitch Softball program has started its 28th season last Saturday with the complex clean up.

The Jackets have won 18 district championships, 16 regional championships, six state runner ups including in 2011 and 2012, and seven state championships.

Coach Glenn Rutenbar has been at the helm for the entire time and has an overall record of 712 wins, 127 losses and 1 tie. Assisting Coach Rutenbar will be Carl Howell returning for his 20th year. Handling the junior varsity is Coach Mallory Butler and Assistance Coach Kara Rutenbar.

Member of this year’s varsity are seniors, Emily Delldonne, pitcher; Brooke Farrer, pitcher; Chelsea King, pitcher/designated hitter; Stefanie Walls, first base/designated hitter; Taylor Pittman, first base/designated hitter; Taylor Williams, pitcher; Deean Davis, second base; and Brianah Green, outfield. Juniors, Mackenzie Brown, outfield; third base, Meredith McGinnis, first base/designated hitter; Vangie Futch, pitcher; Hope Brannan, pitcher; Taylor Sturgill, outfield; Kaycee Twomey, infield; and Tonee Fabrizi, shortstop. Sophomores, Lexy Sims, catcher/third base; Alexis Mace, outfield/catcher; and Bayli Robinson, first base/designated hitter. Freshmen, Kenzie Green, third base; and Destiny Breenens, outfield.

The team kicks off their season at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, with the Annual Orange and Blue game.

The pre-season classic is Saturday, Feb. 1 with games scheduled as follows: There will be a BHS Alumni recognition and cookout too.

Saturday, Feb. 1: Varsity pre-season tournament at Bartow

11 a.m. Bartow vs. Strawberry Crest

1 p.m. Strawberry Crest vs. McKell

3 p.m. McKell vs. Tampa Chamberlain

5 p.m. Chamberlain vs. Bartow
