In their first game of the tournament Bartow pounded out 11 hits in a 9-5 victory over Eau Gallie High School.
The Jackets got it started in the first inning as Lexy Sims and Taylor Sturgill reached on back-to-back errors by Eau Gallie and Sims scored later in the inning.
The Commodores plated a run in the third and took the lead in the fifth on a towering blast over right center field. The Bugs added a run in the fifth with hits by Sturgill, Mackenzie Brown and Chelsea King.
The Jackets pulled away adding four runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.
Tonee Fabrizi lead the way with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with six RBIs. Alex Mace, Sims, Sturgill, Brown, King, Meredith McGinnis and DeeAn Davis each added a it in the cause.
Emily Delledonne pitched the first 4 1/3 innings allowing six hits three runs and striking out nine. Chelsea King came in the fifth holding the Commodores to no hits and striking out one.
In the Jackets second game of the opening day they outhit their opponent the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs seven to four but came out on the losing end 4-2.
Vangie Futch pitched the first 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs on two hits. King again came in and allowed one run on two hits.
Bartow committed five errors in the contest.
Fabrizi again lead the way at the plate with two hits while Mace, Sims, Kenzie Green and Taylor Pittman each added one.
Saturday saw the Jackets bounced back by defeating their rival the Lake Region Thunder 5-0.
Lexy Sims, Kenzie Green and Mackenzie Brown blasted two hits each and Mace, Fabrizi, Sturgill, King and Davis chipped in one each. Lexy Sims and Davis both blasted two run home runs. Chelsea King got the win for the Jackets.
The Bugs were defeated in their final game by Tampa Chamberlain 3-2. Chamberlain limited the Bugs to five hits. Mace, Fabrizi, Sturgill and Green all had hits. Brooke Farrer took the loss for the Jackets who are now 17-3 overall
For the tournament Bartow stats were. DeeAn Davis who went 2-for-9, Tonee Fabrizi who went 8-for-15, Taylor Sturgill who went 5-for-13, Lexy Sims who went 4-for-14, Kenzie Green who went 4-for-10, Mackenzie Brown who went 3-for-10, Meredith McGinnis who went 1-for-7, Taylor Pittman who went 1-for-7, Chelsea King who went 2-for-8 and Alex Mace who went 2-for-8.
The Jackets were in action last night as they hosted the Kathleen Red Devils at 7 p.m. then they travel to Bradenton the face Braden River Friday night. They close out their regular season next week as they host Auburndale on Tuesday, travel to Lake Wales on Thursday the have the final regular season home game and Senior night on Friday April 11.
The Jackets have seven seniors who will be recognized. They are pitcher/DH Chelsea King, pitcher Emily Delledonne, pitcher Brooke Farrer, pitcher Taylor Williams, first baseman Taylor Pittman, second baseman DeeAn Davis and outfielder Breianah Green.
Ultimately the tournament was won this year by no one. Lakewood Ranch was beating Auburndale in the finals when it was rained out.
