On Thursday the Lady Jackets captured their fourth district championship in a row and their 19th overall.
Bartow opened district play on Wednesday, in fine fashion as they defeated the Lakeland High School Dreadnaughts 10-0 in five innings.
Bartow shortstop Tonee Fabrizi started the game with a double to left center. Lexy Sims drew a walk. Taylor Sturgill reached on a fielder’s choice and Kenzie Green laced a single up the middle to give Bartow a 2-0 lead after one.
In the second inning Brianah Green reached on a walk and Alex Mace singled up to middle to give Bartow a 3 -0 lead.
The Jackets plated four runs in the third with walks to Mackenzie Brown and K. Green and hits by DeeAn Davis, and Fabrizi to make it 7-0. The Jackets added two more in the fourth with back-to-back doubles by Sims and Taylor Sturgill and a sacrifice fly by Brown and a single by K. Green.
In the fifth inning Davis and B. Green had back-to-back singles, then a walk to Fabrizi when Mace drove in the winning run with a drive to right field.
Chelsea King went the distance for Bartow allowing only two hits while striking out 9 Dreadnaughts.
In the championship the Jackets pounded out 10 hits to beat George Jenkins 8-2.
Mace, Sturgill, K. Green and B. Green all pounded out two hits while Sims and Brown chipped in one each.
The biggest of the hits came in the fourth inning as Bartow was leading 1-0 when Lexy Sims stepped to the plate with bases loaded and blasted a grand slam.
The win ups Bartow’s record to 22-5.
King went the distance for the Bugs allowing seven hits while striking out three Jenkins batters.
Bartow will host the next round at 7:30 p.m. Thursday April 24 as it faces the loser of Harmony-(Kissimmee) and Osceola.
Jenkins will travel and face the winner of Harmony and Osceola. There will be a twist however, Bartow will host but will be visitors on the scoreboard due to a previous ruling handed down.
