The crash of a lightweight aircraft on Saturday evening after taking off from Punta Gorda Airport is under investigation.

PUNTA GORDA — A 60-year-old pilot suffered minor injuries after crashing a lightweight aircraft into the woods Saturday evening upon taking off from the Punta Gorda Airport.

Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services’ Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Team responded to a report that a lightweight aircraft had gone down in the woods at 5:35 p.m. The team found the small aircraft in the trees with one person on board.
