Sales tax collections ‘strong’

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office District 1 headquarters opened last May at 11501 Willmington Blvd., Englewood. The single-story, 11,579-square-feet structure was budgeted at $3.8 million budget, but ended up costing $4.3 million.

Construction continues at the West County Annex, a $6.5 million sales tax project, which is taking shape next to the old annex building on San Casa Drive. The new 20,000-square-foot, 4-acre annex will house various county offices and is expected to be completed this fall.

MURDOCK — Sales tax revenues continue to exceed expectations, paving the way for a potential surplus that could go toward additional projects.

The 2014 local option 1 percent sales tax initiative estimated revenue of about $18 million annually, or a total of $108 million over the six-year length of the extension.
