Our nation’s Watermelon Queen came home Saturday, promoting a fruit so prized that it’s painted on the walls of King Tut’s tomb.

Savannah Christensen at the Arcadia Walmart with Florida Watermelon Queen Camri Campbell handed out watermelon slices, posed for photos and pushed the message of buying local produce during her short visit. The pair also appeared later at the Arcadia Elks for a benefit event. The girls were accompanied on their Arcadia stopover by Debra Tanner Harrison with the DeSoto County Watermelon Association, and Eleanor Bullock, promotions coordinator with the National Watermelon Association out of Lakeland.
