DeSoto youngsters are in Port Charlotte today, some for the first time witnessing a live stage performance.
The field trip for some 400 fourth-graders is a program with South Florida State College that exposes kids to cultural events such as theater, other experiences outside their world, said Cindy Garren, director of Cultural Programs with the SFSC Performing Arts program. “The more things [kids see], whether sports or playing chess or theater, the better. It’s how we educate them.”
