Arcadia’s A. W. Gilchrist: Florida governor’s ‘very large property holdings’

Gilchrist's brag that he “owns or controls nearly all the desirable property in Arcadia” was true. He had completed the original survey of Arcadia in 1886 and drew a city map in 1892, a copy of which hangs in the city’s offices,

Albert W. Gilchrist was Florida's 20th governor, serving from 1909-1913.

Modern Arcadia isn't much different than when Gilchrist died in 1926.
