PUNTA GORDA — Just before 8 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, U.S. Army Privates George Elliot Jr. and Joseph Lockhart detected blips on their radar screen at Opana Point, the northernmost part of the island of Oahu, located in the Hawaiian Islands.
