VENICE — For a moment, the cards were on the table and Lemon Bay High School held the winning hand. But a slow start doomed the Manta Rays and they could only pull to a late-game tie during a 69-58 loss against Venice on Friday night.
With four minutes left, Montrel Jackson sank a pair of free throws and teammate Brian McGill stole the inbounds pass and laid it back in to give the Manta Rays their first tie in a game they never led, 55-55. It marked the peak of a score-and-answer effort from each side and send Lemon Bay (8-8) on the upswing.
