Woodcarvers show off their skills

John Juliano, from Port Charlotte, specializes in carving decoys and shorebirds, and uses driftwood to enhance the realism of his carvings.

Bud Evans, from St. Augustine, is a self taught wood carver, originally from New Jersey. He started carving in 1980 and specializes in decoys and shorebirds. He was one of many woodcarvers represented at the show held Saturday at the Turner Center.

A large crowd turned out Saturday for the Peace River Wood Carvers Exhibition. Several expert carvers gave lessons, and in addition to finsihed pieces, raw materials and tools were available for purchase.

Helene Mellow from Lake Placid carved a beautiful wetland scene highlighted by a pair of colorful ducks.
