The state budget has passed both houses, but some local officials are hoping Gov. Rick Scott will make use of his line item veto pen before approving the final draft.
The $77.1 billion state budget includes a $1.2 billion surplus for the first time in years, and longtime Charlotte County School Board member Lee Swift would have liked to have seen some of that funding go into local education. However, the money went into pet projects around the state, he said.
