PORT CHARLOTTE — Visitors attending the Tampa Bay Rays’ 2014 spring training generated an estimated $20.9 million for the Charlotte County economy, according to research released by the Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau on Tuesday.

The Rays’ 14 spring training home games between Feb. 28 and March 29 brought 78,624 people to Charlotte Sports Park, and 39 percent of those were Charlotte County residents. Of the non-resident attendees, 68 percent came from other Florida counties, 22.7 percent came from other states and 9.3 percent came from outside the U.S.
