County adjusts lightning policy

The DeSoto Board of County Commissioners made a slight adjustment to its lightning detection enforcement at Brewer Park, allowing the gates to the park to remain open in the future.

DeSoto County Youth Baseball’s Nicole Adams complained that the lightning system’s 10-mile detection radius has made practicing and playing league games on the fields difficult. She added the county’s current policy of locking the park’s gates until an all-clear is given prevents parents from getting their children and creates a number of logistical headaches.
