PUNTA GORDA — When Jennifer Molnar was growing up in Punta Gorda, she doesn’t remember learning about fire safety as a little girl. But now that she is the city’s fire marshal, she knows how vital it is for the fire department to reach out to the community’s youth.
“It’s so important to start teaching kids when they’re young, because they are like sponges — they absorb all the information we give them,” said Molnar, now 40. “When we’re able to reach them every year, things like ‘stop, drop and roll’ and ‘don’t play with matches’ become second nature to them.”
