Practices, not hospitals

Although personal information of 4.5 million people was stolen from Community Health Systems by Chinese hackers in July, the information was taken from patients of physicians whose practices are affiliated with the chain of hospitals, as opposed to the hospitals themselves.

According to a report from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, no medical or credit card information was stolen, but names, addresses, birthdates, telephone numbers and Social Security numbers were taken from physicians’ offices.
