I arrived at the home of Sherry Wolford, a cake designer who had been highly recommended to me, and was greeted at the gate by the largest Weimaraner I had ever seen. The charcoal gray German hunting dog politely escorted me to the door. I expected him to open it but instead I was warmly greeted by Sherry, who welcomed me in. We sat at her kitchen table and talked about one of my favorite subjects, cakes.
My sister is an artist who exhibits her work out west, and she is a cake decorator, so I know well that cake design is an art. A beautiful cake is soon eaten, so they are preserved in photographs if someone thinks to take one. Some of Sherry’s best cakes didn’t have the greatest lighting when the pictures were taken, but we sorted through her pile of photos and talked about her art form.
