A sense of humor in art is always refreshing: here, Binklye has depicted the artist sketching a scene while a painting of the scene lies not far away.

The Artist of the Month Program has this month been graced with the lovely and serene paintings of Fay Binkley. A representative sample of her work is on display in the lobby of DeSoto Memorial Hospital for the month of December.

Binkley discovered her artistic talents in a roundabout manner. Born on a farm in Ontario, she always enjoyed drawing. She took art as an elective in high school and found it useful in her career as a fifth grade teacher.  But art for art’s sake had no place in her busy life. Marrying her childhood sweetheart and raising  two daughters was enough to fill her days. As she says, the only painting she did was with a BIG brush.
