Light emitting diodes or LEDs are the newest technology to gain widespread acceptance. As demand for these efficient lights grows, manufacturers are coming out with new configurations and prices are coming down. LEDs hold the promise of the longest possible lifespan, but little data is available on how long they will last in real life applications. The advantages of LEDs are no warm-up time, may be used in enclosed fixtures, not sensitive to vibration, no toxic elements and no heat is given off. Some are dimmable with special light switches.

But it can be confusing as there are many choices out there, no true way to compare light output, and the technology is still evolving.
