Arcadia City Council on Tuesday agreed to a handful of land rezoning requests. By far the biggest change planned for rezoned property is expected to bring a branded convenience store/gas station to the city at the corner of Turner Avenue and State Road 70.

The 13.47-acre property is owned by Calvary Baptist Church, whose members this year sold the three adjoining parcels to a commercial developer. A church spokeswoman wouldn’t divulge which store brand is planned but said the vacant property will go commercial within a year. Council rezoned the three parcels in a first reading; a final reading of the rezoning ordinance to accommodate commercial development will happen later this month, said Jeff Schmucker, the city’s liaison to the Central Florida Regional Planning Council. Traffic studies and roadway upgrades would be required before construction would begin, Schmucker told council at Tuesday’s meeting. A second ordinance reading is when those with questions or concerns are welcome to address city council.
