A new backpack program started this year is already helping to feed many hungry children and families in DeSoto County. At Tuesday’s meeting of the DeSoto County School Board, Superintendent Karyn Gary said a team of 20 volunteers assembled backpacks for some 600 students to help feed them, and their families, over the weekend.
“This is a phenomenal success story,” Gary said. “We are now sending food home so none of our children will go hungry.”
