Clarity was port commander at Pearl Harbor

When this picture of the USS Cochrane (DDG-21) was taken in 1975, Mike Clarity was captain of the guided missile destroyer. The picture was taken during the filming of the TV show "Hawaii Five-0." Jack Lord, the main character in the TV series, is being transferred by boatswain's chair at sea from the Cochrane to the destroyer USS Perry (DD-340).

Editor’s note: This story is the second of two parts.

After postings in Norway and after serving as operations officer on the USS Sellers (DDG-11), Mike Clarity, 77, of Punta Gorda Isles, spent time taking post-graduate courses at Navy schools in Monterey and San Francisco, Calif. Then he was sent to Vietnam. By this time he had served 10 years in the Navy and was a lieutenant commander.
