Bikers with toys roar into town

Some of the riders bring toys strapped to their bikes, while others are hauled in a trailer to deliver gifts to Arcadia's Toys for Tots campaign Saturday. Several groups of motorcycle riders donate their time and toys to brighten Christmas for area girls and boys.

Riders were each given a Toys for Tots pin by the local committee, headed by Bob Grinis, to acknowlege their help in making Christmas a little bit merrier for some DeSoto boys and girls. The Toys for Tots campaign is still collecting gifts in boxes set up at several local businesses. For more information or to make a cash donation, call Grinis at 863-558-2415.

After riders arrived in Arcadia, they dropped off their toys at the old Arcadia Police Department where volunteers are sorting and wrapping them. Each rider received a Toys for Tots pin.

An estimated 60 to 70 motorcycles thundered into Arcadia Saturday morning to deliver donated toys for the annual Toys for Tots drive.

Starting from Punta Gorda and escorted by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office, dozens of motorcycles roar into Arcadia Saturday morning to deliver gifts for the annual Toys for Tots campaign. Toys will be distributed to those who preregistered later this month.

Dozens of motorcycle riders thundered into downtown Arcadia Saturday morning, bringing with them teddy bears, games and dolls for Toys for Tots.

Members of the Blue Knights — motorcycle aficionados who are retired from law enforcement — along with other groups made the annual run from Charlotte County up U.S. Highway 17 North into Arcadia. Their purpose was to bring toys to children in need in DeSoto County.
