The DeSoto Board of County Commissioners unanimously agreed to use redevelopment funding to demolish some dilapidated structures along the U.S. 17 South corridor.

County Coordinator Mandy Hines, speaking on behalf of the Economic Development Advisory Committee, said the money would be used as part of the standard code enforcement process, which will give owners time to make improvements and correct the code violations. The county has identified four structures that would meet the criteria for demolition. Two are abandoned, while the others are occupied. Hines added EDAC agreed removing the structures would be the best use of the funding to make immediate improvements to the county.
