PUNTA GORDA — The legal case has been closed in relation to the cruel death of a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Maisie, who washed ashore with a cinder block tied to her last June on Don Pedro Island. But the dog’s owners say justice is far from served.
Thomas Hoeckel, 62, of Englewood, entered pretrial diversion March 13. He was arrested in September on charges of animal torture and unlawful disposal of a dead animal. Authorities accused the man of killing his and his wife’s dog by tying a cinder block to the dog’s harness and tossing her into the Gulf of Mexico.
