How many DeSoto County residents not only have had a song written in their honor by Florida folk songwriter Frank Thomas, but also have displayed their artwork in the Smithsonian Museum? Guy LaBree is not only at the top of the list, he’s the only one on that list.
On March 18, LaBree was one of several recipients of the Florida Heritage Award in Tallahassee, a well-deserved honor long overdue. He’d been nominated 10 years ago without being chosen, and was nominated again last year. His work speaks for itself.
