James Joseph Richardson, who spent more than 20 years in a state prison before being freed in 1979, is closer to being compensated for his prison time.
A Florida Senate bill drafted to compensate individuals who were convicted and sentenced to a prison term, and later exonerated, was unanimously approved by the Senate Rules Committee on Monday. Richardson could receive up to $50,000 for each year he was wrongly imprisoned.
