BOCC sends indigent care tax to ballot

The DeSoto Board of County Commissioners removed the final hurdle in DeSoto Memorial Hospital’s quest for a 1/2-cent indigent care sales tax referendum on November’s ballot.

In the 5-0 vote, the board approved the final language of the ordinance which, if approved by voters, will generate approximately $900,000 yearly that will go exclusively toward paying off the hospital’s current debt, specifically the mortgage it has with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
