Athletic Director Jarrett Zolkos told the School Board Tuesday the high school may start charging athletes a fee to participate in school sports. Zolkos said some other area school districts — such as Charlotte County — have a similar “pay to play” model in which students who qualify for a team have to pay to take part in games.
Zolkos said the district is considering a fee of $25 per student to participate in one sport, with another $15 fee for a second sport. Beyond that, no additional fee would be assessed. A family with multiple children could pay $50 for all their children to play whatever sports they qualified for.
