Ashleigh Runkle of Punta Gorda was bound and determined to have her photo taken with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, as her mother had had hers taken with Bush 10 years ago, when Hurricane Charley first hit Charlotte County on Aug. 13, 2004. Runkle was the first of many to have her photo taken with the former governor Wednesday afternoon while he was visiting Hurricane Charley's Raw Bar & Grill in Punta Gorda during the restaurant’s 10-year Hurricane Charley Commemoration Event, which ran all day long.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, left — who led the state through the aftermath of Hurricane Charley, along with his sibling hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, during the 2004 season — spoke highly of all the work done by Charlotte County Emergency Management Director Wayne Sallade, second from left, and the strength of all those who rebuilt here in Charlotte County after the devastation of Hurricane Charley in 2004. Joining Bush and Sallade at the 10th anniversary event Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Charley's Raw Bar & Grill in Punta Gorda were current state Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam, center, and Dean and Sandy Stainton, owners of the restaurant, which is named after the 2004 hurricane that destroyed the Staintons’ first restaurant in Punta Gorda, Dean’s. The Staintons rebuilt Dean's South of the Border a block away from the original site, and recently opened Hurricane Charley's. They hosted a daylong event Wednesday, honoring those who helped out during the hurricane’s devastation, and who helped to rebuild our community.
