Joyce E. Ponger, 78, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, in Arcadia, Florida, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1938 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, to George M. and Martha Frommell Seese.

Joyce moved with her parents and identical twin sister JoAnne to Bradenton, Florida, as a young girl. It is there she met the love of her life, Edward R. Ponger, and was happily married for 62 years.

Joyce was the most caring, loving and giving person with her family and friends you would ever meet. She always went above and beyond when a holiday or birthday came, making sure each and everyone felt special and never forgetting a soul. Joyce had a big heart for people and we can’t forget the stray animals she would take in. When she was of good health she enjoyed bowling, playing golf, shopping with “her girls,” playing bingo or going with Ed to the dog track. Joyce was the tie that bound our family and will forever be in our hearts.

She is survived by three daughters, Allyson (Douglas) Christ of Arcadia, Florida, Susan (Jack) Bogardus and Marianne (Tommy) White, all of Port Charlotte, Florida; granddaughter Jacquelyn (Anthony) Freeman of Arcadia; grandsons Erik (Alison) Sheridan of Gulf Cove, Florida, Jason (Michelle) Dill, Tim (Melissa) White, Brett (Morrisa) White all of Punta Gorda, Florida; and great-grandchildren Madyson, Olivia, Trey and Ashton. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward R. Ponger; sister JoAnne L. Schultz; and parents.

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the chapel of Ponger- Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. at the chapel with the Rev. Ellis Cross of N. Hillsborough Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Joshua Creek Cemetery, Arcadia.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 919 N. Arcadia Ave., Arcadia, FL 34266. Online condolences can be made at

Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes.
