Leon J. “Pete” Griffin, 83, of Nocatee, Florida, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Arcadia, Florida.
Pete was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
He moved to Arcadia over 64 years ago, from Georgia. Pete was a heavy equipment operator for the Florida Department of Transportation. Pete enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, and barbecuing with his family. Pete was a devout Christian. He was an active member of the Arcadia Church of God where he served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lorene Griffin, Nocatee, Florida; two sons, Steve (Michelle) Griffin and Keith (Sharon) Griffin both of Arcadia; one daughter, Stephanie (Tony) Higginbotham, Callahan, Florida; two brothers, David Griffin, Arcadia, Harris (Vicki) Griffin, Hamilton, New York; and a sister, Joann Parsons, Arcadia; and six grandchildren, Andrea Griffin, Emily (Steve) McCormick, Amber Griffin, Bethany Griffin, Hunter Higginbotham and Dylan Johnson. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Jane Morgan Griffin; two brothers, Willie and Tommy Griffin; and one sister, Vera Phillips.
Visitation will be conducted from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Arcadia Church of God, with Pastor Steve Griffin, the Rev. John Spratlin, and the Rev. Jimmie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Joshua Creek Cemetery.
